Figma plugin

Designers

Select any image layer and remove its background right in Figma or FigJam — transparent, white or your own colour. Keep the original beside it if you like.

  1. Unzip the download.
  2. Open the Figma desktop app → Plugins → Development → Import plugin from manifest…
  3. Pick manifest.json from the unzipped folder.
  4. Select an image layer and run rmvbg – Remove Background.

WordPress plugin

Site owners & WooCommerce shops

  1. In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the downloaded zip and press Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Open Media, pick a photo and press Remove background (rmvbg).

  1. Open VS Code (or Cursor, VSCodium).
  2. Open Extensions → ⋯ menu → Install from VSIX…
  3. Pick the downloaded rmvbg-vscode-1.0.0.vsix file.
  4. Right-click an image in the Explorer → rmvbg: Remove background.

Adobe Express add-on

Designers & marketers

Drop or paste a photo in the panel, remove the background, and add the cut-out straight onto your Adobe Express page.

  1. In Adobe Express, turn on Add-on Development in Settings.
  2. Unzip the download and serve the folder locally (for example with npx @adobe/ccweb-add-on-cli start).
  3. Open Add-ons → Your add-ons → connect the local add-on.

Questions

Are the rmvbg plugins free?

Yes. All four plugins are free, with no account, no API key and no watermark.

Are my images uploaded?

No. In Figma, VS Code and Adobe Express the background is removed on your own computer. The WordPress plugin opens the rmvbg pop-up, which also works on your device, and saves the finished image to your own Media Library.

Why is the first run slow?

The first time, the plugin downloads the background-removal engine (about 90 MB). After that it is cached and every photo takes a few seconds.

Can I see the source code?

Yes. The plugins are plain JavaScript and the download is the full source. Figma, VS Code and Adobe Express plugins are AGPL-3.0, like the IMG.LY engine they use; the WordPress plugin is GPL-2.0-or-later.
