Privacy policy
The short version: your photos and videos are processed on your own device. They only leave it when you choose to save them to your account or ask the AI advisor for a tip.
Photos and videos you edit
Removing backgrounds, making product, passport and profile photos, converting video to MP3 and trimming videos all happen inside your web browser. These files are not uploaded to rmvbg or anyone else.
The first time you use the background remover, your browser downloads the cut-out model and keeps it in its cache so the next photo is faster. This download contains no information about you.
When something does leave your device
- Saving to your account. If you are signed in and press "Save to account", that finished photo is stored privately in your account so you can download it again on any device. Only you can see it.
- AI background advisor. If you ask the advisor for a recommendation, a smaller copy of that one photo is sent to an AI model to get the suggestion. It is not saved by rmvbg.
- Image from a link. When you paste a photo link, our server downloads that public image and passes it straight to your browser. The cut-out still happens on your device, and we don't keep the image.
The rmvbg Chrome extension
The rmvbg extension only works when you use it. It does not read your browsing history, track you, or run on pages in the background.
- Right-click a photo. The extension opens rmvbg.xyz in a new tab with that photo's web address, so the photo can be fetched and cut out as described above under "Image from a link".
- Find photos. Only when you press this button does the extension look at the page you are on, and only to list the addresses of its photos inside the extension window. Nothing is sent anywhere until you choose photos and press "Remove backgrounds".
- The extension stores nothing about you, has no account of its own and contains no ads or analytics. We don't sell or transfer this data, use it for anything except cutting out the photos you picked, or use it to decide credit or lending.
Your free account
An account is optional. If you create one, we keep your email address, the display name and profile picture you choose, and the photos you decide to save. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us.
You can delete any saved photo at any time from your dashboard, and change your name and picture there too.
Cookies and technical data
We don't use advertising cookies or sell your data. Your browser stores a sign-in token so you stay signed in. Our hosting provider may set a security cookie and keep standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages visited) to keep the site safe and working. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of that request.
Who we share data with
Only the services needed to run rmvbg: our hosting and account-storage providers, Google (if you use Google sign-in) and the AI provider behind the optional advisor. We never sell personal data.
Children
rmvbg is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. See also our terms of use.
