rmvbg for Mac
Your whole rmvbg in its own window — Studio, screen recorder and account — plus a background remover that keeps working with no internet.
Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac. "Chip: Apple M…" means Apple Silicon; "Processor: Intel" means Intel.
The full rmvbg, always up to date
Studio, recordings, screenshots, Pro and your account — the app opens the live site, so new features arrive without reinstalling.
Works offline
No internet? The app switches to its offline background remover. It downloads the engine once (about 125 MB) on first launch.
Record your screen
Screen, camera and mic recording work in the app. macOS asks for permission the first time.
Private
Photos are cut out on your Mac. Links to other sites open in your normal browser.
Install in 1 minute
- 1Open the downloaded ZIP. You'll get rmvbg.app.
- 2Drag rmvbg into your Applications folder.
- 3Open rmvbg. The first time, macOS says it can't check the app — click Done (or Cancel).
- 4Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to rmvbg, then Open. (On macOS 13–14 you can instead Control-click rmvbg → Open → Open.)
- 5That's it. rmvbg opens normally from now on.
If macOS says "rmvbg is damaged and can't be opened", it's the download warning, not real damage. Open Terminal, paste this, press Return, then open rmvbg again:
xattr -cr /Applications/rmvbg.appShortcuts
The app tells you when a new version is ready (rmvbg → Check for updates…).
Questions
Is rmvbg for Mac free?
Yes. The app and the offline background remover are free. rmvbg Pro features work in the app the same way they do on the website.
Does the Mac app work without internet?
Yes, for removing backgrounds. On first launch the app downloads the cut-out engine once (about 125 MB). After that, if there's no internet, it opens the offline background remover. Studio, recordings and your account need internet.
Why does macOS say it can't check the app?
rmvbg isn't notarised by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm the first time you open it. Use Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security, as shown above.
Which download do I need?
Open the Apple menu → About This Mac. If Chip says Apple M1, M2, M3, M4 or newer, choose Apple Silicon. If it says Processor … Intel, choose Intel.
Building a website? Add rmvbg to it with the Web SDK. Prefer Chrome? Get the extension.
