Quick answer
remove.bg says its standalone website will no longer be available from 1 December 2026, with background removal moving into Canva, and its credits expire on that date. Download anything you need before then, then switch to a free tool such as rmvbg.xyz, which needs no credits or account.
What remove.bg announced
According to remove.bg's own FAQ, the standalone remove.bg website is closing on 1 December 2026 and its background removal continues inside Canva. Credits expire on the same date. If you pay for a remove.bg plan, check their FAQ for how your account and billing are handled.
Your checklist before 1 December
- Use or download anything you still need from your remove.bg account.
- Write down every place remove.bg is part of your workflow — listings, design templates, scripts.
- Pick a replacement and test it with your hardest photos (hair, glass, white products).
- Update bookmarks and team instructions so nobody hits a closed page on launch day.
Switching to rmvbg in five minutes
- Open rmvbg.xyz and drop a few of your usual photos.
- Compare the edges with the before/after slider.
- Download PNGs one by one or all at once as a ZIP.
- For marketplace images, open Product photos and pick Amazon, eBay or Daraz.
- Install the Chrome extension to right-click any photo on the web and cut it out.
What about the remove.bg API?
rmvbg does not offer a public API today; it runs in the browser. If you relied on the API for automation, follow remove.bg's announcement for its future, and use rmvbg's batch upload for day-to-day work.
